Biography

Amy Nelson … not your average high school music teacher. Amy doesn’t spend much time in the classroom these days as she is very busy with her main career as a Canadian recording music artist.

Prior to pursuing a career in performing, Amy earned a degree in Music Education at the University of Regina. She has been taking private music lessons for many years and continues to train regularly with a professional vocal coach in Edmonton. All of this hard work is paying off, as she was nominated for both the "Female Vocalist of the Year" and the "All Star Band- Keys" awards at the 2009 Saskatchewan Country Music Awards.

Amy's self-titled debut CD was released in April 2009. Produced by Brad Prosko of B-rad Studio, the songs feature talented musicians such as Murray Pulver (Doc Walker), Travis Switzer (Deric Ruttan), and Jayson Brinkworth (Aaron Pritchett). This CD showcases 6 original, radio quality songs with full production and was funded in part by SaskMusic.

On stage, Amy has tons of energy and an infectious sense of fun. As a keyboard and guitar player, Amy has the option of performing solo or with a full band. She plays her original songs, and those of artists who inspire her, at venues ranging from nightclubs and casinos to music festivals and benefit concerts. This year she gained additional performance experience opening for top Canadian artists such as Terri Clark, Aaron Pritchett and The Higgins.

Travelling has become a large part of life for Amy. In 2007 she travelled throughout Australia, singing at local cafes and clubs. In 2008 she travelled across Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba performing at various venues. She started 2009 by performing in Mazatlan, Mexico. This year she was also invited to perform for the Canada Day Celebrations at Trafalgar Square in London, England. According to Amy, this has been the highlight of her career!

Based in Regina, Amy combines her city roots with her love of contemporary country music. She has been featured in music publications such as Country Music News and SaskMusic’s The Session as well as on various radio stations and in newspapers throughout Canada. She was part of the CKRM Big Country Talent Show, which resulted in a performance on the main stage at the Craven Country Jamboree in 2008. Most recently, she was one of the top three artists in Big Dog 92.7 FM's 2009 "The Next Big Thing" contest.

Amy is determined, hard-working and has a desire to learn as much about the music business as possible. She serves on the Saskatchewan Country Music Association board of directors and volunteers at music-related events. She manages her own career, markets her music and books all of her own shows. Due to the strength of her new CD and the level of success she has achieved in a short amount of time, she will soon be further assisted by professionals in the music industry. This team, in combination with her growing fan base, will help Amy to advance her career to the next level as she continues to gain recognition across Western Canada.
